What The Cape does have is something no other regional resort can match: the absolute perfect location on a legendary surf beach with unmatched Land’s End views that during unforgettable nightly sunsets provides vistas that defy description. Although certainly romantic, it’s not adults only and although certainly luxurious, it’s not comparable (in price or prestige) to ultra-luxury resorts like One&Only Palmilla, Las Ventanas al Paraíso or Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas. Our top choice, however – The Cape, A Thompson Hotel – does not fit neatly into either category. Las Ventanas al Paraíso and One&Only Palmilla pioneered Los Cabos style luxury and romance decades ago under late, legendary hotelier Edward Steiner, while Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas is the first resort to open on the Baja California peninsula from the acclaimed Four Seasons brand, with a secluded and magnificently landscaped setting on Los Cabos’ picturesque but more lightly developed East Cape. In the latter category are ultra-luxury properties from some of the world’s most famous hospitality brands. In the first category locally are adults-only resorts such as Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, a Cabo San Lucas property with a unique resort-within-a-resort concept Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, a romantic resort set in an upscale development just outside of San José del Cabo Marquis Los Cabos, a Tourist Corridor based resort whose signature touch is its strikingly designed lobby arch and Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort and Spa, where rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of Land’s End and Playa El Médano. The best area lodgings, at least as far as romance is concerned, typically fall into one of two categories: adults-only resorts whose entire raison d’etre is romance, and ultra-luxury properties that do everything to the Nth degree, from celebrity chefs and pampering spas to romantic packages, promotions and “special experience” menus. But romantic experiences like private yacht excursions for seasonal whale watching, or moonlit “tables for two in the sand” overlooking Land’s End, are destination specific. Romantic amenities like Champagne and chocolates, or rose petal strewn suites, can be found almost anywhere. What really puts the destination over the top, however, and what accounts for the enduring popularity of Los Cabos in this regard – not only for romantic getaways, but also destination weddings, anniversaries and renewal of vows ceremonies – is the pairing of romantic, one-of-a-kind experiences with the region’s breathtaking outdoor settings. With its warm year-round climate and abundance of swaying palm trees, gorgeous beaches and spectacular ocean views, Los Cabos has all the requisite ingredients for a first-class romantic getaway destination.
